Col de Vence

This is a minor hill in the Alps Maritine - so basically one for a training ride if you find yourself in Nice/Cannes area.
Popular with local cyclists.  It's a good way up and out of the busy coastal resorts and hinterland, and into a much quieter and more spectacular landscape. Ideal cycling country.
The Col itself starts inside the town of Vence (signs lead you up and out) with a stiff 8% until ypu get above the town.
After that its all 5 to 7% with 8% max. Long at 10km and with almost no tree cover. Good views as you get near the top of the Cote d'Azur.
The top itself is unspectacular but it leads into a wonderful landscape of gorges and "perched" villages - more on all that later.
